Switching it up this week to shed some light on a non-weaver, yet exceptional fiber artist, Courtney Puckett! Her application of traditional textile techniques, such as wrapping, coiling and stitching, along with manipulation of various found materials, pushes her work into a field of abstraction.
"I am drawn to art that recycles waste, that makes something extraordinary out of something ordinary, that examines the detritus of everyday life and, in particular, of domestic life... In my work, I try to reconcile the perceived inferiority of fiber and craft materials with the assumed superiority of paint, concrete, steel and the still-hyper-masculine disciplines of painting and sculpture. "
Courtney's pieces are definitely something extraordinary!
