My paintings are imitations of nature that have multiplied into bizarre abstraction. I pull imagery from sources like protozoa, minerals, coral reefs and outer space to find new shapes and patterns. From this content I build a visual vocabulary of forms that bear an inscrutable relationship to real life objects but are never clearly identified. The energetic surfaces of my paintings combine layers of gouache, acrylic, airbrush and screen print. The distinctive artificial color palette relays a pop nostalgia connected to cheap plastic goods. This in conversation with my exaggerated bouncy shapes plays with a dark sense of humor and invites the viewer to explore the line between natural and artificial.
