My work is narrative potential: an image that shares the emotionally un-reconciled moments of human relationship. The ambiguous yet luminous space in my work refers to pleasantly stimulating urban vibes. Within vibrant and whimsical interpretations of a story, my painting gestures focus on creating harmony to contribute a particular sensibility or atmosphere as whole and sometimes to break it: awkwardness in poise. The deliberate distortion and misquotation of the original field or figures yield fresh imagery, surface, and palette. A pictorial landscape is forged based not only on visuospatial memory in which mimicry of by physical multi-cultural reality happens in some ways; but defies it in others like cyber or virtual game space does. Mining the unconscious of visual and spatial illusion, Immersive but quiet color field painting of abstract expressionism and some surrealism techniques merge together in my practice. My process often begins with staining canvas a limited palette, followed by gestures that are reminiscent of Miro’s automatic drawing and/or Tanguy’s relinquished traditional aspects of perspective, and suggesting swelling ephemeral shapes. Finding new forms with a balance of dynamic and subtle color relationships to the ground-within indefinite space around them- opens up various questions and meanings of pictorial access and possible figuration; embodying an experience of openness of who are they, where are they. I want viewers to get a kind of visual experience that requires sensitivity of thought and investigation; not by spectacle driven visual experiences, but by unexpected, mysterious ways.
