ARTIST STATEMENT

The compositions I make are comprised of both abstract and representational recurring motifs though often stylized beyond immediate recognition. Arches, trees, celestial bodies, orbs, windows, curtains, doors, hooks, horizon lines, are all present but not necessarily used to convey a conventional narrative. Rather they are used as pictorial elements. This allows the elements to be seen as multiple things at once. This ambiguity is important because it has the potential to create alternate visualizations. Though I am very much affected by the history of western painting and its influence on how it informs the formal construction of my images, it is the experimenting and use of unconventional painting materials/techniques that drives the production of the work.
